Prodigal Community Services was established in Winnipeg, Manitoba by Dr. W. Jacyk and Partner.
The operations moved to Ontario when Dr. Jacyk came to Ontario to practice medicine. Paul Laurie joined the company in 2002 which allowed an increase in the types of services offered.
Dr. Jacyk developed a substance abuse program for NAV CANADA, called the The Chemical Dependency and Rehabilitation Program or CDERP for short. The Chemical Dependency Education and Rehabilitation Program is a highly effective and sophisticated substance abuse and mental health program that has a peer support component. CDERP deals with substance abuse in the work place, specifically with safety sensitive occupations.
A natural extension of CDERP is to help individuals who have driver license problems related to the use and misuse of alcohol and /or other mind altering drugs.
Dr. Jacyk, as an physician specializing in addiction medicine, created a program to offer addiction assessments and other addiction services to clients what have lost their license from the Ministry of Transportation in order to maintain public safety.
