Opioid and Pain Management

These are the following nine areas that we will focus on in this course.
Addiction as a Brain dysfunction.
The characteristics of Opiates. An in depth examination of the drug classification.
The urban myths about Methadone and the use of this drug as a replacement.
An examination of the appropriate use of opiates.
Pain management and the connection to abuse of opiates.
The characteristics of opiate dependence.
Identifying when the use of opiates mimic addiction which is a pseudo-addiction within pain management.
Identifying the co-occurring problems such as physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or psychiatric pain that leads to opiate use.
Developing appropriate counselling skills and strategies for work place interventions for opiate clients.
